WAKING UP ON EARTH: Being with nature through contemplative practice
Tom McGee, MFCC
July 15 - 19, 2009
Program fee $90
Our bodies and our awareness have developed in reciprocity with other-than-human entities with whom we share this planet. As a culture, we have lost a reverence for those forms that awareness takes when it is not in human form. When we think about it, we realize we live among multiple intelligences that take the form of elk, dolphin, pine, squirrel, crow, and boulder. It is not merely a matter of esthetics but a matter of survival on this earth that we make contact and learn from the other powers in the land.
Using contemplative techniques that enhance communication between human and nature, we will explore our experience of ourselves in the outdoors and deepen our connection to the life around us. We will awaken ourselves to the web of life and become participants in the more-than-human world.
Participation in this program will offer:
- A deepened connection with nature and awareness of the interdependence of all living forms
- Access to natural surroundings in ways that support self-esteem and self-image
- Reduced stress through a nurturing relationship to the environment
- Enhanced sensory awareness and mental clarity
- Facilitation of spiritual awareness through nature practices
