The Gnostic Jung Revisited
Stephan Hoeller
August 22 - August 26, 2001
Program fee $65
"Gnosis" means inner knowledge. The knowledge sought
is not strictly intellectual, but mystical. It unleashes
the spark of divinity within, too often obscured by
ignorance and convention. This worldview will be explored
with well-known scholar and writer, Stephan Hoeller,
director of the Los Angeles Gnostic Society, and author
of many books including The Gnostic Jung and the
Seven Sermons to the Dead. Tony Lysy, Dean of
Studies at the Olcott Center, will join Stephan in
exploring this topic.

| Anton Lysy, Ph.D. is
Dean of Studies at the Olcott Institute in
Wheaton, IL where he teaches contemporary
depth psychology, philosophy, and classic
theosophy. He represented the Theosophical
Society on the committee that designed
the program for the 1993 Parliament of the
World's Religions. |

This program will provide a historical context from
1875, when C.G. Jung was born and the Theosophical
Society founded, to understand the contemporary expressions
of Gnosticism and Theosophy. Sessions will both review
and go beyond previous works by Dr Hoeller such as
Jung and the Lost Gospels and will focus on
both the Dead Sea Scrolls and the Nag Hammadi Library.
The works of Helena Blavatsky and Friedrich Nietzsche
will provide a basis for the understanding and development
of Jung's approach to depth psychology and individuation.
The works of contemporary Jungian writers such as
Aldo Carotenuto, Linda Leonard, and Murray Stein will
be used as representatives of contemporary Jungian
thought.
Dr. Hoeller's book, The
Gnostic Jung and the Seven Sermons to the Dead,
is recommended reading for the session and will be
available at Far Horizons.
